History
Keeping the spirit and purposes of the Kagyü Lama International Association founded by Kalu Rangjung Künchab in 1978, the Shangpa Network was later created in 2008 by some of his disciples, including Tülku Wangchen, Lama Norlha, Lama Lodrö and Lama Denys. Then, with the same intentions at heart, to preserve and develop the purposes of the Kagyü Lama International Association, Lama Denys made a donation in 2016 to initiate the Shangpa Foundation.
Purposes
The Shangpa Foundation‘s motto : “At the service of the lineage, for the good of all” expresses its aims.
The Shangpa Foundation is at the service of the Shangpa Network comprising vajra brothers and sisters of the lignage. The foundation aims at the transmission and diffusion of the lineage, preserving its heritage, translating its corpus, teaching students and praticionners, and training qualified lamas. It also intends to facilitate the collaboration within the Shangpa Network.
The Shangpa Network and Foundation are not a hierarchical institution
The Shangpa Network and Foundation is a non-hierarchical structure at the service of the lineage for the good of all. Relationships between members are purely based on samaya, the master-disciple link of the transmission, and on vajra brothers-sisters heart relationships; they are not based on any institutional or temporal hierarchy. Those relations are practiced according to the instructions of Vajradhara Kalu Rangjung Künchab, who directly refer to Jamgön Kongtrül Lodrö Thayé’s Encyclopedia of Knowledge (book V, part 4).
Therefore, here below, presenting Kalu Rangjung Künchab’s spiritual heirs, we choose to mention only “who does what”, without any hierarchical innuendo. This presentation was made to the best of our knowledge and we would be grateful for any complement or improvement you could suggest.
Members
All Shangpa Lamas are members of the network. On the occasion of several gatherings, many of them expressed directly their motivation to be cooperative member.
We apologize for any unintentional omission ; if you are not mentionned or if you would like to become an active member, please contact us.
